Moscow, 22 May: Stabilization problems have thwarted the operation of the Express-AM22 satellite, head of the Russian Insurance Centre's international space insurance programme Dmitry Medvedchikov told a Moscow conference on Thursday [22 May].
"The Express-AM22 has encountered stabilization problems that result in the excessive consumption of fuel. Insurance agents expect an announcement of the satellite's loss," he said.
They will have to pay 107m US dollars for the lost satellite, Medvedchikov said.
The Express-AM22 satellite was put to orbit in December 2003 to provide a broad range of telecom services, among them television, radio and data broadcast, broadband Internet, telephony, video transmissions and VSAT communication.
[The Express-AM22 satellite is located at the 53 degrees east orbital position and carries TV services for Europe, Russia and the Middle East]
